Chapter I – “De qué va la ética”
I agree with Savater when he says that Ethics is to know how to live or the art of living. As humans beings we have free will, that is to say, freedom to choose how we want to live but we should be careful about it.
Firstly, we have to know about ourselves, about what we are able to do or not. Secondly, we should be sure that what we want to do do not hurt anyone. We live in society and what is good for us may not be good for others who have the same freedom as we do.
At last, we should know to distinguísh the right way among other choices to decide on it. And what is the right way? I think it is the way that leads us to make decisions we should never regret having made. We take a risk of course, but that is life: to make decisions at any time.
It is not easy as it seems to be because sometimes we can make mistakes and some other times, although we tend to chose the easier way or the most convenient for us we have to give it up to help others.
So it is very important that educators prepare children to develop their intelligence as well as their critical thinking in order to make their best bet in life.

You're right when you say it's not easy, Lili! But who said life would be easy, after all?!? ;-)
You say we should avoid hurting others with our decisions. In your experience, is this always possible? And when our wills clash with other people's wills, how can we know whose wills to prioritise???
By the way, I really liked the way you've defined "the right way", but do you then mean we should learn to accept mistakes as unavoidable and then not regret them? Or is this an impossible condition, in your view?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts like this. It's so interesting to read you!
Go ahead!
Gladys
Hi Gladys!
I think we should not be selfish and sacrifice ourselves to others's interests in order not to hurt them. However, sometimes our decisions make others feel sad in spite of the fact that they are made for their own sake.
And when our wills clash with other people's wills, the fact should be considered giving priority to those wills which are fair or for a good reason.
What I mean is that we should try to have an irreproachable behaviour so as not to regret mistakes. And if we make them, there is always a chance in life to mend our ways.
Lol,
Lili
I know you'll probably disagree with me me here, Lili, but I believe it's impossible to live an "irreproachable" life or avoid mistakes... life is imperfect by nature!
And I do not agree with the idea that we should always put others ahead of us... Experience has taught me that unless we take good care of ourselves, we won't be able to take care of others either!
Have you ever experienced a similar feeling? Maybe not!
All the best,
Gladys
Hello Gladys!,
What I meant is that we should try to be as perfect as possible.
Of course, we can't love others unless we love ourselves. But sometimes we choose to sacrifice ourselves for the sake of others as a demonstration of love.
Hugs,
Lili
