"Feeling alive"

What expressions does Rita use to emphasise how important the course is to her?

"But its not takin' the place of life, it's providin' me with life itself."
"Comin' here, doin' this, it's given me more life than I've had in years,... Well, if he doesn't want me when I'm alive I'm certainly not just gonna lie down an' die for him."
"I've begun to find me-an' it's great you know, it is Frank. It might sound selfish, but all I want for the time bein' is what I'm findin' inside me."
To Rita the course is so important that she compares it to the breath she needs to live. Under no circumstances will she give up the course because it helps her to discover the person there is inside her.

Do you think all courses would do the same for Rita, Lili? And does your learnign do something like that to you?

Eager to know!

Hi Gladys,

I don't think all courses would but this one is what she wants:"literature".
As far as I am concerned, to study keeps me alive even more when it's about what I like. I love studying languages, especially English, so it makes me feel very happy.
Hugs,
Lili

Does the way she's taught have anything to do with whether Rita "feels alive" or not, Lili? Or is it simply a question of studying an interesting subject?

Glad you feel like that about studying!

Love,
Gladys

I think that Rita feels alive not only by studying literature but also by the way she is taught. She is asked to think critically, to express herself by giving her points of view. It helps her to identify herself and raise her self- estime because she is in that way taken into account and considered a valuable person by her teacher.
Hugs,
Lili

Crystal clear, Lili! Pls remember all this about contributing to boosting the student's self-esteem and discovery of their self-identity when we discuss our job teaching them EFL!!!

LOL,
Gladys
